A house, in its own words
The house traces its lineage to early 20th-century Russian perfumery, with documented fragrance production dating back to at least 1920, when Шипр духи (Chypre perfume) appeared in its catalog. Over the following decades, the brand developed a signature style rooted in Russian florals and green accords. Notably, Гиацинт (Hyacinth) launched in 1940, a period when Russian perfumery was increasingly directed toward domestic production following international trade disruptions. Белая Ночь (White Night) arrived in 1929, capturing the luminous midsummer nights particular to northern Russian latitudes. The mid-20th century saw sustained output, with Ромео (Romeo) and Океан (Ocean) both released in 1960, reflecting contrasting thematic directions. А Блок representing romantic individualism and the latter evoking Soviet-era optimism about nature and conquest. The house maintained its catalog through the late Soviet period, releasing Воздух Осени (Air of Autumn) in 1983, a scent that demonstrated continued creative ambition. Following the disruptions of the 1990s, the brand survived and eventually modernized, culminating in the 2025 release of Северное сияние (Northern Lights), its most recent work.
The house operates from the conviction that perfume should carry emotional and geographical specificity rather than abstract luxury signaling. Each fragrance draws from imagery drawn directly from Russian experience: northern lights, winter forests, white summer nights, autumn air. The philosophy prioritizes atmospheric fidelity over trend-chasing, seeking to recreate in liquid form the sensory impression of a landscape or season. There is a deliberate anti-elitism in the approach, maintaining affordability and accessibility while preserving craft quality. The brand rejects the notion that Russian perfumery must imitate Western models, instead building from a distinct olfactory vocabulary developed over more than a century of local production. This self-positioning reflects a broader cultural confidence in Russian craft traditions.
