Heritage
A house, in its own words
Pascal Morabito was born on the Caribbean island of Haiti and spent his early years surrounded by the island’s rugged mountains and vibrant colours. He moved to Nice, France, where his family had long worked as goldsmiths, a craft that shaped his aesthetic sensibility. In the late 1970s he began experimenting with perfume as a medium for artistic expression, seeking a way to marry the tactile richness of metalwork with olfactory composition. The breakthrough arrived in 1980 with Or Noir, a fragrance housed in a gold‑plated bottle that the creator called the first jewellery perfume. The concept attracted attention from collectors and perfume enthusiasts alike, and a year later the male version, Or Black, was introduced, establishing a paired “couple” of scents that would become a signature of the brand. Throughout the 1990s the house broadened its portfolio, releasing Rugby for Men, Golden Gloves, and the Mediterranean‑inspired Passion Mediterrannee Avec Amour in 1997. In 2014 the brand revisited its early success with a re‑issued Or Black that featured updated packaging while retaining the original scent profile. Today Pascal Morabito continues to produce limited‑edition releases that reference his Caribbean roots, his goldsmith lineage, and his ongoing fascination with the intersection of visual art and fragrance. The house remains independent, operating out of Nice and collaborating with a rotating roster of perfumers to keep the scent narrative fresh while honoring its handcrafted origins. The creative vision of Pascal Morabito rests on the idea that scent can be as tactile and visual as a piece of jewellery. The founder speaks of perfume as a three‑dimensional object that should be seen, touched, and inhaled, a belief that informs every launch. Values such as craftsmanship, authenticity, and storytelling guide the house. Each fragrance is linked to a personal memory or place – the Caribbean hills, the goldsmith workshop, or the excitement of a horse race – and the narrative is woven into the scent structure and the bottle design. Rather than chasing trends, the brand pursues a timeless aesthetic that reflects the founder’s heritage and his commitment to artistic integrity. Collaboration with perfumers is approached as a dialogue, where the scent formula is treated as a sketch that will later be cast in metal and glass. Sustainability is also part of the philosophy; ingredients are sourced from suppliers that meet recognized quality and ethical standards, and the metal components of the bottles are often recycled from previous editions.
