The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Serge Majoullier built Bois & Vetiver for the Pascal Morabito Colognes collection with a clear intent: vetiver as protagonist, not background player. Where most fragrances treat vetiver as a base note that lingers quietly, Majoullier gave it real estate in the opening. The name says exactly what the fragrance delivers, two materials in dialogue, wood and grass, earth and air. This isn't a cologne that hedges its bets.
The note structure is unusual in its restraint. Cardamom and grapefruit in the top feel obvious enough, but the jasmine-geranium pairing in the heart is where the composition pushes toward something different. Here, they lean green instead, the geranium's leafy quality grounding the florals before they can lift off. Vetiver and musk in the base create a close, intimate trail that stays near the skin rather than announcing itself across the room.
The evolution
The grapefruit arrives first, bright, almost sour, with a zest that prickles the nostrils. The cardamom joins in, softening that initial sharpness and adding warmth without sweetness. The jasmine and geranium emerge next, and this is where the fragrance reveals its character: green florals, not soft ones. The vetiver doesn't wait for the drydown to show up, it's present throughout, an earthy undercurrent that keeps the florals from floating away. As time passes, the musk arrives, skin-close and powdery. The sillage remains intimate. The vetiver provides a lingering presence that extends the wearing experience, grounding the composition as the florals settle. Each wearing will vary based on individual skin chemistry, but the vetiver's persistent nature ensures the fragrance maintains its character from start to finish.
Cultural impact
Bois and Vetiver positions vetiver as a centerpiece note rather than a supporting element. The Colognes collection offers accessible luxury within a market of comparable niche releases. Serge Majoullier's structural approach makes vetiver a continuous thread through the fragrance pyramid rather than a drydown resident. Independent houses have taken note of this compositional choice, and it has influenced how some creators approach woody compositions. The fragrance presents an alternative to mainstream masculine signatures without requiring the investment associated with established houses.
