Spicy Galanga arrived in 2021 under the umbrella of French cosmetics group Groupe Bogart, joining a collection of fragrances centered on a simple concept. Perfumer Marine Ipert built the composition around galanga, a rhizome that carries a sharper, more biting character than its better-known cousin ginger. Ipert let galanga and its floral relative ginger flower carry the structure, while a quiet cedarwood base kept things grounded. The result is a fragrance that reads exactly like what it's called: a clean, spiced composition where the heat of galanga does the talking. There's no sweetness competing for attention, no heavy base crowding the opening. Just spice, flower, and wood, arranged with the kind of clarity that makes the fragrance feel direct on skin.
Galanga remains one of the less celebrated members of the ginger family in Western perfumery, often overshadowed by its more familiar relative.
