The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tamima takes her name from a princess and poet who lived during the Almoravid period, wife of the Almoravid sultan Ali ibn Yusuf of Morocco. The fragrance built around this namesake opens with a bright, citrus-forward approach that announces itself with confidence. Neroli and orange provide a clean, luminous top that feels both inviting and assured. Beneath this initial brightness, the composition introduces cooler, more medicinal tones that reshape the sweetness into something more complex. The interplay between these opposing elements creates an olfactory tension that holds your attention without overwhelming it. As the top notes begin to settle, warmer materials emerge from the base, offering a creamy, resinous depth that lingers close to the skin.
Cashmeran is a synthetic molecule with a soft, musky quality that recalls cashmere without being animalic. It has a unique ability to add warmth and texture to a composition, creating a sensation of comfort and intimacy that feels almost tactile. In Tamima, cashmeran appears in the heart and base, threading through the composition like a gentle undercurrent. The oud in the base is present but not aggressive, offering depth and complexity without the heavy, brooding character found in more traditional oud compositions.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with purpose. Neroli and Sicilian orange arrive clean and confident, a bright citrus flourish that does not ask permission. Within fifteen minutes, the eucalyptus moves in and the tone shifts. The camphorated coolness cuts through the sweetness, reshaping the neroli into something sharper, more angular. Clary sage arrives to keep it honest. The heart is an aromatic argument, but one worth having. As the top notes surrender, the base finally speaks. Bourbon vanilla takes the lead, sweet and full, while the oud arrives to deepen it without heavy-handedness. Cashmeran stretches the warmth close to the skin, and this is where the fragrance earns its reputation. The projection settles after the first hour, becoming increasingly intimate as time passes.
Cultural impact
Tamima has built a quiet reputation in the niche fragrance community as a distinctive entry in the woody-amber-vanilla space. Unlike heavier oud compositions, it keeps a cool edge through the eucalyptus note, making it approachable without being safe. The fragrance sits comfortably between seasons and occasions, appealing to collectors who want depth without heaviness. Its launch placed it among the house early releases, and it remains in production as a steady reference point for what Moresque does well.
