The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vacuum arrived in 2020 from Metaphysica Parfums, a Russian house that has been operating since 2017, credited to perfumer Julia Vinogradova. The name evokes absence, the space where something was, or could be. A vacuum isn't empty. It's full of potential, a container waiting for content. Julia Vinogradova translated that idea into scent: what remains when you strip away the obvious and let green, fruit, and wood speak for themselves. The hemp note reads almost botanical, a raw, leafy presence that grounds the composition right from the start. Beneath it, a layer of dark fruit offers sweetness without weight, and woody notes paired with musk create a base that feels warm and close to skin.
The composition is built on a narrow pyramid, just five materials across three layers. Hemp leads, berries and fruit sweeten the heart, and woody notes plus musk close it out. This restraint is the point. Metaphysica Parfums named each fragrance for an abstract concept, and Vacuum's concept is emptiness with presence. Fewer notes means each one has to carry weight. The hemp reads as an herbal backbone that anchors the whole composition, giving it a herbaceous, slightly green character from first spray to final hours. The cannabis material doesn't shout.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all green, sharp and herbal, the hemp note reading almost like crushed leaves or fresh-cut stems. It's bold and slightly raw, the kind of opening that announces itself in a small room. Around the one-hour mark, wild berries and fruit arrive, softening the greenness with a dark, jammy sweetness. The composition warms noticeably here, moving from fresh to something more grounded. By hour three, the musk takes over. Woody notes settle underneath, and what remains is warm, slightly smoky, and intimate. The fruit recedes slowly as the base comes forward, leaving a blend of musk and wood that settles close to skin. As the hours continue, the green fades further, replaced by a softer, amber-tinged warmth. The berries leave behind a trace of sweetness that mingles with the woods, creating a quiet, skin-hugging finish that feels more about closeness than projection.
Cultural impact
Vacuum wears like a personal choice rather than a statement piece. The unisex positioning and soft projection make it versatile enough for daily rotation, and the berry-musk base gives it enough warmth to extend beyond spring and summer into transitional weather. The green opening carries enough character to feel distinctive without crossing into aggressive territory, and the drydown settles into something quietly memorable. It rewards the wearer who enjoys a scent that evolves rather than announces.
