The Heartbreaker Series from Mariná Rituals takes its name seriously. Each fragrance in the line walks a line between invitation and consequence, something sweet that leaves a mark. Raspberry + Sugarcake arrived in 2024 with a name that doesn't bury the lede. Two ingredients. One obvious direction. The brand could have dressed it up with a poetic subtitle. Instead, the name does the work: unapologetic, direct, a little bit defiant in its simplicity.
What makes the composition interesting is what happens between the title and the drydown. Raspberry liqueur opens bright and almost tart, a flash of berry before the sugars rush in. But peony enters the middle phase and changes the temperature, softening, lifting, keeping the sweetness from flattening into something one-dimensional. Roasted nuts add a faint nuttiness that reads almost savory against the sugar. Liquor brings warmth without heat. The result is sweet without apology, but never cloying, floral sweetness with nowhere to hide.
