The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mairage arrived in 2024 from Maison d'Orient, a house whose catalog has drawn attention for its range of compositions. Jordi Fernández composed this one, and his approach brings a modern sensibility to the amber-floral tradition. Fresh ginger, ripe pear, and a bright citrus opening give way to orange blossom and dry amber at the center, then settle into a soft musk-and-amber base. It's the kind of structure that earns the Oriental Floral classification on its own terms. The result feels accessible, wearable, and approachable for everyday life. Ginger cuts through the top with that clean, almost sharp brightness, and the pear rounds it out with a soft fruitiness that keeps the opening from feeling aggressive.
What makes Mairage worth noticing is how it handles the ginger-to-amber transition. Ginger is a note that often dominates or disappears, and Fernández threads it through the opening just long enough to add clean heat before the dry amber takes over. The orange blossom in the heart does the structural work, providing a white floral lift that keeps the amber from going flat or syrupy. Meanwhile the base repeats amber against musk, doubling down on warmth without piling on weight.
The evolution
The opening is all about lift. Ginger brings a clean, almost antiseptic brightness, pear adds a round sweetness beneath it, and the citrus notes sharpen the whole top into something almost fizzy. There's a moment in those first sprays where the composition reads like cold fruit and raw spice at the same time, sweet and sharp and strangely refreshing. Then the orange blossom arrives, and the composition pivots. The floral quality softens the ginger's edge while the dry amber underneath starts warming up, turning the scent from something fresh and clean into something golden and close. As the top notes exit, the heart-to-base transition is smooth and unhurried: amber, orange blossom, and musk braid together into a warm, slightly powdery skin scent that feels intimate rather than performative.
Cultural impact
Mairage reflects a sensibility rooted in Arabian perfumery, with its amber-floral structure, bright opening, and close-to-skin drydown making it approachable for a broad audience. The fragrance's composition balances regional heritage with modern, accessible construction, using orange blossom and dry amber to create warmth without leaning on heavier materials. Its handling of ginger in the top, bright and clean rather than aggressive, and the way the base stays soft and intimate rather than projecting, suggest a deliberate approach to wearability.
