The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Camille Leguay designed Cuir Affine with a clear intention: refine leather until it sheds its sharpness, then wrap it in something warmer. The result takes its name seriously, Affine means refined, perfected, brought to its full expression. The reference to old Cognac and jazz boxes from the Roaring Twenties anchors the fragrance in a world of unhurried sophistication, where tobacco scrolls and hazelnut cream belong together in the same room. It's a leather for someone who wants the depth without the blunt force, a material transformed into something gentler yet equally substantial.
Lactonic leather is uncommon in perfumery. The combination of milk and hazelnut cream creates an unexpected softness in the material, moving the leather character toward something closer to buttery suede than traditional tanned hide. The addition of tuberose absolute introduces a waxy floral nuance that adds complexity and unexpected elegance. Together, these choices produce a fragrance that smells expensive through restraint rather than sheer intensity.
The evolution
Bergamot opens bright and citrus-sharp for the first ten minutes, a brief window of freshness before the composition warms. Then milk and hazelnut cream arrive together, giving the heart a dessert-like sweetness that feels almost gourmand. Tuberose appears here too, but quietly, a waxy, creamy floral rather than the indolic punch tuberose can deliver in other contexts. The sweetness peaks around the second hour, then gradually recedes. What remains is the tobacco and leather: dry, nutty, and close to the skin. The suede note emerges as the milk fades, creating a finish that can linger on most skin types. By the end, this becomes a skin scent, intimate, warm, and worn by you alone.
Cultural impact
Cuir Affine arrived as part of Lorga Parfums' initial offerings, presenting a lactonic leather interpretation that stands apart from traditional material presentations. The lactonic leather character it embodies represents a distinctive approach, using creamy and sweet accords to reshape how leather can be expressed. Camille Leguay's refined vision anchors the house's voice in subtlety and restraint, offering a counterpoint to more assertive leather interpretations. The initial fragrance selections, including Cuir Affine, explored different perspectives on modern scent design, each emphasizing intimate presence over projection.
