The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Golden Woods arrived in 2008 as the second entry of Link Woods Collection, following the debut of Silver Woods. The house, rooted in a modest French atelier, set out to archive a single aromatic idea, the contrast between fresh forest green and deep, resinous wood. By naming the perfume Golden, Link signaled an intention to reveal warmth within the woody category, warmth that begins in the top notes with strawberry sweetness and bergamot brightness, before revealing its deeper truth in the oud and sandalwood base.
Link's approach to Golden Woods reflects a deliberate philosophy of restraint and contrast. Rather than building a straightforward woody fragrance, the house chose materials that would complicate and enrich the woods concept. Strawberry and praline bring gourmand warmth that softens the austerity of the green opening, while saffron bridges the gap between sweetness and spice in the heart. The base completes the arc by settling into oud's primal smokiness, framed by sandalwood's creamy warmth and anchored by musk. This structure offers both softness and depth, sweetness and smoke, making Golden Woods a study in calculated contrasts.
The evolution
The fragrance follows a deliberate arc from brightness to depth. The opening burst places green notes at the forefront, grounded by the unexpectedly sweet presence of strawberry and lifted by bergamot for an effervescent start. Within minutes, the strawberry recedes and the heart emerges, led by saffron's spiced warmth, cushioned by praline's confectionery softness and the classic elegance of rose. This middle chapter lasts for hours, its richness sustained by the interplay between saffron's intensity and praline's sweetness. The finale belongs to the woods themselves, with sandalwood and oud trading dominance as the creamy and smoky dimensions unfold over time, held tog ether by a clean musk that ensures the base remains present without becoming heavy.
Cultural impact
Since its 2008 debut, Golden Woods has become a quiet favorite among niche collectors who appreciate Link’s restrained storytelling. Its balanced green‑fruit opening paired with a deep oud base sets it apart from more overtly gourmand woods, earning mentions in boutique blogs as a ‘golden middle ground’ between fresh and woody. The fragrance often appears on wish‑lists of those seeking a scent that feels both modern and timeless, reinforcing Link’s reputation for thoughtful, archive‑like creations.
