The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
La Collection D'antiquités 1910 from Lattafa's Pride line takes its name from an era, not a story. The number points backward, to an early twentieth-century perfumery vocabulary of green apple pomades, dried rose petals, and the quiet warmth of tonka bean. What Lattafa has done here is translate that period feeling into a modern, accessible composition, keeping the spirit of old-world luxury intact while making it wearable for today. Apple and davana open with a crisp, almost dewy freshness. Cedar and osmanthus build the heart with a woody-floral depth that feels borrowed from another century. The drydown belongs entirely to the present: vanilla and patchouli, warm and close, lasting well past the occasion that called for it.
The structure is deceptive. On paper, this looks like a straightforward sweet-fruity-gourmand. In practice, davana is the tension point, a material that smells of tea, wormwood, and something faintly medicinal, acting as a counterweight to the apple and vanilla that might otherwise make this feel like a confection. Osmanthus adds a stone-fruit floral note that contributes a subtly apricot character, deepening the heart without competing with the sweeter base. The cedar is dry and pencil-shaving clean, holding the composition upright so the tonka-vanilla never slides into heaviness.
The evolution
The opening is bright and tart, apple with an herbal edge from the davana that some wearers find surprising in its greenness. Within ten minutes, the rose arrives quietly, more felt than announced, lending a dried-petal softness to the green top. The heart hands off to cedarwood and osmanthus, which together create a dry, slightly powdery floral-wood character that feels like it belongs to an older vocabulary of perfumery. This middle phase is the quietest and the most interesting, gone is the immediate sweetness, replaced by something more considered. The drydown is where the warmth settles: tonka bean and vanilla wrap around patchouli in a creamy, slightly smoky embrace. On skin, it projects moderately but lasts six to eight hours, staying close and intimate rather than announcing itself across a room.
Cultural impact
La Collection D'antiquités 1910 represents a distinctive entry in Lattafa's catalog, offering a sweet-fruity-gourmand character with notable complexity. The inclusion of davana and osmanthus adds unexpected layers, creating something that moves beyond straightforward sweetness. The davana brings a slightly bitter, herbal quality that cuts through the fruit and gourmand elements, while osmanthus contributes a stone-fruit floral nuance that rounds the composition. Some wearers describe the combination as nostalgic, with the apple and tonka interplay triggering genuine memories for those who find resonance in that pairing.
