The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lanvin Me arrived in 2013, created by Domitille Michalon-Bertier in collaboration with Alber Elbaz, then Lanvin's creative director. The fragrance emerged from a creative dialogue between the nose and the house's artistic vision, reflecting a shared desire to capture something essential about modern femininity. 'Lanvin Me is more than a fragrance,' Elbaz said at the launch. 'Its composition tells a story.' The name is the concept. No metaphor, no place, no fantasy character. Just the woman herself, confident enough to make it about her.
What makes Lanvin Me unusual is its structural tension. Blueberry and mandarin open bright and fruity, friendly, almost girlish. Then black licorice walks in. It's not aggressive, but it changes the conversation. Combined with tuberose, it pushes the composition somewhere more complex, more adult. The sweetness doesn't disappear, but it develops a backbone. Sandalwood in the base keeps everything warm without becoming heavy. It's a fragrance that refuses to be just one thing.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, mandarin and blueberry arrive together, the citrus giving the fruit something to bounce off. Within minutes, the licorice asserts itself. Not anise-sharp, but thick and sweet in a way that reframes the blueberry as darker, more jam-like. The tuberose follows, bringing a waxy floral warmth that balances the composition without tipping into heaviness. Rose appears as a quiet counterpoint, keeping the florals from becoming too heavy. By hour three, the sandalwood has settled and the composition has softened into something skin-close and warm. On fabric, the drydown can linger beautifully, with the warm woods and faded fruit notes creating an intimate trail.
Cultural impact
Lanvin Me occupies an interesting space in the fragrance landscape. The blueberry-licorice combination is distinctive enough to create a memorable scent profile, standing apart from more conventional fruity-floral fragrances. While it may not have achieved the same level of recognition as some of the house's earlier creations, it represents a particular approach to scent design, one that prioritizes character and memorability over broad appeal. The fragrance appeals to those who appreciate unusual note combinations and want a scent that makes a statement rather than simply smelling pleasant.
