The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ultrahot arrived in 2018 from J.U.S Parfums, created by perfumer Aurélien Guichard. The concept: a torrid tango between two extremes, leather that gleams, and incense that smolders. The house describes it as a "torrid tango," which tells you everything about the intent. The official line from J.U.S calls it "shiny leather draped in saffron, adorned with incense", and that's not metaphor. The saffron and leather work together to create an impression of richness and depth, with the incense providing an undercurrent of smoke and mystery. The fragrance presents itself with an opulent character, one that feels deliberate and composed rather than accidental. There's a theatrical quality to how it unfolds, bright and attention-grabbing in its opening before settling into something more intimate.
The powdery warmth comes from the synthetic molecules, ISO-E-Super and Habanolide, which give the fragrance its close-to-skin quality. These materials are known for their ability to create a soft, enveloping feel that stays close to the wearer rather than projecting aggressively into the surrounding space. ISO-E-Super is particularly effective at this, creating a sense of depth and warmth that feels natural rather than constructed. Habanolide is a key material here.
The evolution
The opening features saffron alongside elemi resin, creating a bright and assertive introduction that immediately captures attention. The saffron note is sharp and distinctive, while the elemi adds a resinous quality that gives the top notes complexity and depth. This opening phase is notable for its energy and presence, setting up what follows without being overly aggressive. Then the leather arrives, taking center stage with a warm and resinous character. Cedar and frankincense support this heart note, building a structure that feels solid and intentional rather than fleeting. Bourbon vanilla adds sweetness beneath the surface, rounding out the composition and preventing the leather from becoming too austere or harsh. The combination creates a phase of the fragrance that feels like its true identity, the part that defines what Ultrahot is about.
Cultural impact
Ultrahot occupies a particular space in the leather fragrance category. Its use of powdery synthetic musks sets it apart from traditional leather scents that often rely on smoky, animalic, or vintage-inspired approaches. The combination of bright saffron with warm leather and resinous incense creates something that feels contemporary and fresh rather than nostalgic or derivative. The fragrance has found appreciation among those who enjoy leather notes but want something that doesn't conform to the typical interpretation of the genre.
