The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
HUNQ began with a question: what does a man smell like? Not aspirational. Not emotional. Just the actual scent of someone who builds, fixes, tends, or drives. The answer lives in the work itself. #001 Gardener translates that premise into scent, green, woody, and citrus-forward, capturing the moment early morning becomes late afternoon on skin that earned its warmth. Clean at first. Something else by the end of the day.
The note combination here is unconventional. Galbanum and cypress sit above a base of ISO E Super and ambroxan, materials more common in modern, minimal compositions than in anything claiming to smell like the outdoors. The synthetic-green character is the point. This isn't a nature recreation. It's the sensation of early work, before the sun turns everything golden and close. That precision makes it distinctive within the woody-green category.
The evolution
The opening announces citrus and mint without ceremony. Grapefruit, bergamot, spearmint, bright, immediate, gone within the hour. Then the hand-off: galbanum and cypress arrive, green and cool, staying through the afternoon. By hour four, the woody base takes over. Sandalwood, cedar, patchouli. Ambroxan and ISO E Super close the gap between skin and scent, creating a warm, intimate drydown that persists into evening. Moderate sillage throughout. The projection softens, never disappears. On fabric, cedar lingers overnight.
Cultural impact
The synthetic-green character appeals to those who prefer contemporary masculine scents over classic structures. With longevity that lasts a full workday and moderate sillage, it works best in cooler seasons when the woody base reads stronger. Day wear or casual evening, the 2021 release sits comfortably between work-wear and weekend.
