The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ivyme arrived in 2020 from Hermetica. Perfumer Aliénor Massenet worked with alcohol-free bases and skin-friendly chemistry, but her vision extended beyond function. She wanted to capture the particular green of ivy: not the aggressive cut-grass green of summer, but the specific character of ivy itself, the way it creeps along walls and fences, how its leaves hold moisture, the particular shade of green that feels ancient and alive at once. The fragrance needed to honor that botanical precision while remaining accessible and wearable, translating the essence of ivy into something the skin can carry throughout the day.
What makes Ivyme structurally interesting is the tension between its top and base. The opening is all green freshness, ivy, galbanum, a bright Bergamot lift, but underneath there's a white musk that stays close, like a second skin that happens to smell like Turkish rose and morning air. The blackcurrant adds a fruity dimension that keeps the green from going bitter, a small tartness that opens up before the floral heart arrives.
The evolution
The opening is immediate: ivy and blackcurrant, bright and tart, with Bergamot adding a citrus edge that reads as cold air rather than cleaner. Galbanum gives it that slightly bitter, green undertone, the smell of stems crushed between fingers. As the top notes evolve, the blackcurrant softens and the floral heart takes over: Turkish rose absolute, Lily of the Valley, Jasmine. The rose doesn't dominate. It powders softly, blending with the moss and the green that refuses to leave entirely. The drydown is where the white musk does its work. Close to the skin, intimate, with a faint amber warmth underneath. Not a powerhouse, but reliable. The sillage stays moderate throughout. Someone standing next to you might catch it. Someone across the room won't.
Cultural impact
Hermetica launched in 2018 with an alcohol-free formulation approach. Ivyme, released in 2020, embodies this philosophy through a green-floral composition that refuses to compete for attention. Its ivy-led character connects to botanical perfumery traditions while its Turkish rose and white musk base adds contemporary refinement. The fragrance speaks softly while maintaining presence, appealing to those who appreciate subtlety over sillage.
