The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Island Bliss landed in 2017 as part of Hawaiian Tropic's Pearlescent Sunset collection. The name says everything: it's not a place you visit. It's a state you carry. The result pairs watermelon with eucalyptus, that clean, camphorated lift that makes the sweetness feel breezy rather than heavy. Together, watermelon and eucalyptus create something that reads as both fruity and fresh, where the sweetness of the fruit never overwhelms but instead stays light and buoyant. The eucalyptus adds a mentholated coolness that most tropical fragrances skip entirely, giving this mist a crispness that makes it feel like a cool breeze on a warm day.
Watermelon gives that bright, almost aquatic fruitiness, watery, not syrupy. Eucalyptus adds a mentholated coolness that most florals skip entirely. It creates a sensation of something refreshing rather than something sweet. Freesia bridges the gap between those top notes and the warmer base, keeping the heart from feeling heavy, while water jasmine brings that slightly creamy floral depth that makes the drydown feel intentional rather than an afterthought. The base notes of vanilla and sandalwood provide a soft, warm foundation that grounds the fragrance without making it heavy.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately: cold watermelon, sharp lemon. Within minutes the eucalyptus arrives, cool, camphorated, almost medicinal at first before it settles into something clean and refreshing. The watermelon doesn't disappear; it hangs around underneath, a sweetness that the eucalyptus keeps in check. The heart phase is where this shifts from fruity to floral. Eucalyptus dominates, freesia adds softness, water jasmine brings creaminess without heaviness. By the drydown, vanilla and sandalwood take over, warm and close to the skin. This is where the body mist format shows its nature. It stays within arm's length, never projecting far, holding close to the skin throughout the wear. The progression moves from bright and cool at the top to softly warm at the base, creating a complete arc that feels balanced rather than fragmented.
Cultural impact
Island Bliss offers a different take on tropical by combining watermelon with eucalyptus. The watermelon provides that bright, almost watery fruitiness that feels clean rather than sweet, while the eucalyptus adds a cool, mentholated edge that sets it apart from more traditional tropical notes. This pairing creates a scent that reads as fresh and unexpected, with a crispness that makes it feel spa-like and sophisticated. The eucalyptus note gives the fragrance its memorable character, that clean, camphorated lift that keeps the sweetness from becoming heavy.
