The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Giovany Society sits inside Fragrance World's 2024 lineup, a collection built around confident, accessible masculinity. Released in 2024, it carries the clean aromatic backbone of a modern fougère but reshapes it with a smoky, almost ritualistic base. The opening cuts straight to the point with cardamom and sage, bright and resinous, a confident first impression that doesn't waste time on preamble. As the top notes settle, the composition moves into a heart defined by Haitian and Madagascan vetiver working in tandem, one rooty and mineral, the other greener and brighter, creating a tension that gives the fragrance its architectural weight.
The pairing of Haitian and Madagascan vetiver defines the heart of Giovany Society, and it's what gives the composition its specific gravity. Haitian vetiver brings that deep, rooty, almost mineral earthiness, a raw and grounded character that feels pulled straight from the soil. The Madagascan variety adds a greener, brighter facet, almost grassy at times, lifting the blend and keeping it from sinking too far into darkness. Together they create a layered vetiver signature that reads as two distinct voices in conversation rather than a single flat note.
The evolution
The first hour is all cardamom and sage, bright and slightly resinous, the kind of opening that reads as confident from across a table. The cardamom has a warm, almost peppery snap to it, while the sage adds an herbal, slightly savory greenness that keeps the top from feeling purely spicy. Together they create a fresh, composed entry that feels deliberate rather than showy. Around the two-hour mark, the French narcissus surfaces, sitting on a bed of vetiver that grows more mineral and rooty as time passes. The heart phase has an unexpected coolness to it, almost like walking past a garden wall after rain, the narcissus lending a dewy, green-floral quality that contrasts against the earthier materials below. By hour four or five, the vanilla arrives, but it never overwhelms.
Cultural impact
Genuine Man Giovany Society sits in an interesting space, a composition that takes recognizable fougère structure and reshapes it with materials that feel quieter and more contemplative than the typical aromatic men's release. The palo santo and dual-vetiver combination gives it a smoky, almost meditative quality that reads as grown-up from the first wear. Wearers tend to describe it as composed, the kind of scent that works in a tailored room but doesn't require one.
