The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Überoud arrived in 2025 as part of Ensar Oud's EO Resin collection, a Private Blend that flips the house's usual script. Where most oud-driven releases lean into heat, smoke, and barnyard intensity, this one goes the other direction. The name itself is a wink: über oud, not under oud. More. Colder. Stranger. The composition is built on a rare kind of tension. Deer's musk, the note most formulations smother with heavier resins and loud woods, sits near the surface here, exposed. Blue lotus joins it, carrying its own watery, almost metallic coolness that runs counter to anything floral or sweet. Then there's the Brunei oud, anchoring the structure without tipping it into smoke.
Blue lotus is the unusual move. It arrives with a watery facet that most floral notes don't carry, a current rather than a bloom. In a composition this animalic, you'd expect that floral thread to round off the rough edges, smoothing the musk into something more wearable. Here, the lotus doesn't soften anything. It tightens. The aquatic quality reads almost like cool water running over the musk, keeping it lifted, mineral, slightly bruised rather than dirty. Brunei oud does the rest of the work. It doesn't compete with the animalic charge.
The evolution
The first hour is the loudest, and even then it's a hush. Blue lotus opens wet, slightly green, with a cool shimmer that doesn't quite read as floral. There's a faint, almost vegetal snap underneath, a freshness that pulls the bloom away from anything conventionally pretty. The musk is there from minute one, but it arrives sideways, animalic presence without the barnyard assault that usually announces it. Think river water over warm stone, not a stable. By the second hour, the lotus has settled into the spine of the composition and the musk opens up. This is where Überoud earns its name. The deer's raw charge comes through, but it passes through that blue filter first, so what lands on skin feels clean and slightly metallic rather than feral. There's a faint warmth threading through now, unnamed but present, a low hum beneath the cool surface.
Cultural impact
Überoud carries the weight of a house that built itself on musk-oud blends with real animalic charge, compositions that refuse to sand down the edges that make oud compelling. It represents that lineage in concentrated form. The deer musk sits unapologetically forward, the blue lotus cuts through with a cold, almost aquatic shimmer, and the Brunei oud holds the whole thing in a state of suspended restraint. Nothing in the composition apologizes for itself. In a category where sweetened, approachable ouds have become the norm, this one reads as something closer to a thesis statement. Wearers tend to self-select, which is part of the point.
