The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says something. Lyon's Truth isn't about discovery, it's about what happens after you've already found it. Empire Fragrance launched in 2016 with two founding scents, both named around legacy and self-knowledge. This one landed on truth: the kind that doesn't announce itself. The plum and blackberry opening arrives like a memory you didn't know you'd kept. Tart and ripe simultaneously. Then Bulgarian rose steps in, and something shifts, the tartness recedes, the room gets warmer, the air feels closer. It's the olfactory equivalent of a confession made at 2am when the only light comes from a streetlamp outside. Just the fragrance, sitting in its bottle, doing the talking.
Bulgarian rose carries the heart: not sharp, not green, but thick with the honeyed depth this variety is known for. Violet adds the powder. Together, they build something that reads as both floral and warm, not one then the other, but concurrent. The tonka bean and sandalwood in the base keep the drydown from going flat. Sandalwood grounds it. Tonka sweetens it without adding the intensity of additional vanilla. It's a composed finish rather than a dramatic one.
The evolution
The opening hits quick, blackberry and plum arrive together, the plum slightly juicier, the blackberry adding a tart edge that keeps things from going flat. Your first twenty minutes are fruity and present. Then the florals take over. Bulgarian rose, vanilla orchid, violet, the fruitiness doesn't disappear so much as dissolve into the background. What replaces it is powdery, warm, slightly sweet. This is where the fragrance lives longest. Around the two-hour mark, sandalwood and tonka bean begin to show. The vanilla in the base is the final act. By hour four, you're wearing something skin-close and warm. The projection drops. It's a fragrance that wants to be discovered rather than announced. The next morning, there's a trace, faint, sweet, the ghost of the tonka and sandalwood drydown still clinging to fabric.
Cultural impact
Lyon's Truth launched in 2016 as one of two founding scents from Empire Fragrance, arriving alongside Lyon's Legacy. The fragrance opens with blackberry and plum, bringing tart fruitiness to the composition. The vanilla base anchors it in familiar comfort. Since its release, the fragrance has remained unchanged. The blackberry and plum combination delivers a bright, tangy quality that cuts through the sweetness of the base. The tartness of the top notes gradually gives way to the warmth underneath, creating a smooth transition through the scent's development.
