The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Be Tempted Eau So Blush is a flanker to DKNY's original Be Tempted, the fragrance built around a bold red apple and a sense of urban temptation. Where Be Tempted went for juicy intensity, the 2016 Eau So Blush takes a softer approach. Blush, not bold. A whisper, not a statement. The name itself telegraphs the shift: temptation reconsidered, rendered in softer light. The collection was already established as DKNY's playful, confident take on desire, this variant simply turned down the volume.
What makes the composition interesting is that the florals don't simply float above a sweet base. The cedar in the heart, often relegated to background duty in fruity florals, actually structures the peony and jasmine, keeping them from drifting into pure confection. And the apricot in the base reads as warm skin, not synthetic fruit. That combination, powdery florals, woody backbone, skin-warm apricot, is what elevates this above casual reach-for fragrance territory. It has depth without heaviness, which is harder to achieve than it sounds.
The evolution
The opening hits with blood orange, pink grapefruit, red currant. Bright, tart, immediate, a citrus burst that doesn't tiptoe. Magnolia arrives almost immediately, softening what could have been sharp with its creamy floral presence. The tartness leads for the first twenty minutes, then magnolia nudges it aside. Within the first hour, the heart takes over: pink peony and jasmine create powdery softness, shifting the energy from energizing to intimate. The drydown belongs to cedar and musk. They wrap around the apricot, creating warmth that doesn't project so much as linger, skin-close, lasting the next few hours. By the end, you're left with apricot and woody notes staying close, with musk holding the whole thing together into something personal.
Cultural impact
As a flanker to the original Be Tempted, this fragrance carved its own space in the fruity-floral landscape. It sits at an interesting intersection: bright enough for daytime wear, grounded enough for evening. The woody notes give it more character than most flankers, the kind of detail that makes people return to it.
