The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Love arrived in 2014 as Desigual extended its colorful, pattern-driven fashion identity into fragrance. The brand known for mismatched prints and saturated hues wanted a scent that felt as bold and approachable as its clothing. Fabrice Pellegrin, the nose behind the composition, translated that vision into something sweet, bright, and made for everyday wear rather than special occasions. Love doesn't ask you to commit. It asks you to enjoy.
The note structure is straightforward but effective. Bright cranberry and blackcurrant lead with tart sweetness, then hand off to a heart of orange blossom and benzoin that rounds everything into something softer. The base of praline, tonka bean, and sandalwood adds warmth without heaviness. What makes this composition interesting is the balance, Pellegrin didn't lean fully into gourmand or fully into floral. The result sits in the middle: sweet but not cloying, warm but not heavy, accessible without being boring.
The evolution
The opening is the star here. Cranberry and blackcurrant hit bright and tart, almost effervescent, like biting into fresh berries. The blackcurrant note is particularly well-done, dark and rich rather than generic candy-fruit. Within minutes, orange blossom and benzoin take over, softening the tartness into a warmer, more floral middle. The transition is smooth, almost gentle. The drydown reveals praline and tonka bean, with sandalwood adding a soft woody undertone. Creamy. Warm. Sweet. The sillage stays intimate throughout, close enough to notice when someone leans in, but it won't announce your presence across the room. On most skin types, Love fades after 1-3 hours. On fabric, a trace lingers until the next day, though the heart of the fragrance is those first bright hours.
Cultural impact
Desigual launched its fragrance collection in 2014, bringing the brand's colorful, joyful fashion identity into scent form. Love sits squarely in the sweet-fruity-gourmand category, approachable, unpretentious, and made for everyday wear rather than special occasions. It's the kind of fragrance that smells like happiness: bright berries, soft florals, and warm sweetness that doesn't demand attention.
