The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Davidoff launched Cool Water Deep Summer Fizz in 2006 as a limited summer edition to the house's iconic Cool Water line. The concept was simple: take the aquatic freshness that made the original a global phenomenon and push it into something more effervescent, more playful. The name says it all. This was a fragrance built around sharp brightness that cuts through summer heat. The limited edition status meant it was never going to be a permanent fixture in the Davidoff lineup, which gave the composition a chance to explore territory the core range would not typically cover. It was the house saying: we know what we do well, and we know how to have fun with it too. The fragrance opens with a burst of citrus that feels almost sparkling, the kind of brightness that seems to catch light.
The note structure leans heavily into citrus and mint, two materials that amplify each other in heat. Lemon provides the sharp, almost acidic top that reads as effervescent. Mint adds a cool counterpoint that tricks the nose into sensing freshness even when the air is warm. Kiwi is the unexpected element. It doesn't announce itself so much as it softens the edges of everything around it, providing a subtle roundness that keeps the composition from feeling too sharp.
The evolution
The opening is all fizz and instant brightness. Lemon, mint, and bergamot arrive together with no hesitation, the citrus reading as sharp and sparkling rather than sweet. The mint does its job immediately, adding a cool edge that makes the top feel almost refreshing on contact. As the initial burst settles, the sharper edges begin to soften and the heart opens up into something greener and more aromatic. Lavender moves in alongside mandarin orange, and the kiwi begins to assert itself, giving the mid an almost watery juiciness that fits the name. There's a faint herbal quality from sage threading through here as well. The drydown is where cedar and white musk take over. The citrus has mostly dissipated by now, and what's left is a clean, skin-close presence that stays intimate rather than projecting.
Cultural impact
Cool Water Deep Summer Fizz arrived in 2006 as a limited summer edition to Davidoff's iconic Cool Water franchise, which began in 1988. The original Cool Water established an aquatic-citrus signature that became a reference point for fresh masculine fragrances. The 2006 limited edition took this template and pushed it toward something more effervescent, leaning heavily into mint and kiwi. This flanker represented a playful approach to seasonal fragrance, using ingredients that created a distinctly fizzy quality.
