The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Moonglade arrived in 2022 from Damask Haus, the work of perfumer Bri Beyer. Strawberry and grey musk share space with amber and cashmere wood, and the whole composition leans into the soft glow of something seen in low light rather than daylight. Nothing shouts here. The opening reads fruity and almost playful, but it never tips into the sticky sweetness that strawberry notes usually invite. Instead, the composition pulls the fruit toward something more restrained, a berry held in shadow rather than spotlit. The cashmere wood lends a brushed, textile quality to the base, while the amber warms without overwhelming. Grey musk sits underneath everything, blurring the edges and giving the whole composition a hazy, close-to-skin quality.
What makes Moonglade interesting is the strawberry, and the unusual company it keeps. Damask Haus lets the berry sit at the same table as grey musk, black vanilla husk, and cashmere wood, materials with real textural weight that don't usually appear alongside fruit notes. The accord that results reads less like a candy and more like a memory of one. The cashmere wood, paired with amber, grounds what could have been simple sweetness into something you could almost wear.
The evolution
The opening arrives soft and almost immediate, with strawberry and vanilla reading close to the skin rather than projecting outward. The fruit has a dewy, slightly jammy quality at first, bright but never sharp, and it settles into the warmth of the vanilla within minutes. The grey musk and amber begin to take over the architecture gradually, pulling the composition from fruity into something warmer and denser, a slow handoff that shifts the mood from playful to contemplative. Cashmere wood enters quietly through the middle phase, giving the composition a fabric texture that softens rather than sharpens, almost like the scent of cotton warmed by skin. The cashmere note wraps around the amber and creates a brushed, dry warmth that keeps the sweetness in check. As the hours pass, the strawberry fades into a faint, candied memory while the base notes deepen into something resinous and warm.
Cultural impact
Moonglade stands out for its treatment of strawberry as something other than a sugary or gourmand material. By pairing the fruit with grey musk, amber, and cashmere wood, the fragrance repositions strawberry within a more restrained, textural register. The cashmere and grey musk backbone gives the composition a soft, almost intimate quality that appeals to wearers looking for vanilla-toned warmth without the usual dessert associations. The fragrance has drawn notice for its restraint, for how it holds back rather than projecting broadly, and for the way it integrates a typically bright note into a base built around woods and musk.
