The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Imperial editions exist because the originals weren't quite enough. Clive Christian designed No. 1 for Women around a 248-component structure, exceptional by any standard. But Imperial takes that density and pushes it further. A thicker, richer, more insistent expression of the same character. Only 10 bottles of the women's version were ever produced, each 50 ml of pure perfume oil. No dilution. No compromise. Just the original structure, concentrated until it becomes something you can hold.
The note architecture pairs broad categories rather than specific ingredients, fruits with spices, florals as the softening middle, wood and musk anchoring the base. This isn't precision targeting. It's a deliberate fullness. The kind of composition that rewards patience, since each layer requires time to reveal itself. The Imperial concentration means the drydown arrives slowly and stays close to the skin for hours, rather than projecting outward into a room.
The evolution
The opening floods warm and sweet, fruit and spice arriving together, no waiting. The florals don't burst through so much as settle in, softening the initial density into something more wearable. By the third hour, the composition has turned powdery. The woody base and musk create that close-to-skin quality the brand emphasizes. This isn't a fragrance that announces itself across a room. It's the kind you notice when someone leans in. The pure oil concentration means the drydown lingers well past when you'd expect it to fade, intimate and quiet on the skin.
Cultural impact
No. 1 Imperial For Women exists at the extreme end of Clive Christian's output. Only 10 bottles were produced in 2014, making it one of the rarest expressions in the collection. The Imperial label designates the concentrated variant, thicker, richer, more insistent than the standard No. 1 for Women. Community reception notes the scent as long-lasting and warm, though that concentration can register as too strong on certain skin types. The bottle itself, with its crystal body and gold collar, makes clear this is meant to be kept.
