The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nomade arrived in 2019 as a solar counterpoint to the 2018 Nomade Eau de Parfum. Perfumer Quentin Bisch took the house's freesia-forward structure and asked: what if we lit it from inside? Lychee brought the brightness. Oak moss brought a mineral character that grounds the composition. The result moves away from the deeper EDP interpretation, offering something more accessible while retaining the romantic Chloé identity.
The pairing of lychee and freesia represents a specific choice: fruit brightness tempering floral softness. Oakmoss serves as the necessary counterweight, ensuring the composition does not become purely delicate. Bisch's approach treats the mineral quality not as an afterthought but as essential structure, the element that allows the lighter notes to shine without the fragrance dissolving entirely.
The evolution
The fragrance unfolds as a deliberate progression from bright to soft to grounded. Lychee opens the narrative with its tropical sweetness, establishing immediate appeal. Freesia then assumes control, softening the composition into the house's characteristic romantic register. Finally, oakmoss completes the arc, introducing an earthy mineral quality that prevents the fragrance from remaining entirely in the air. Each phase transitions naturally into the next, creating a cohesive journey rather than disjointed chapters.
Cultural impact
The 2019 EDT sits in a specific sweet spot: modern enough for everyday wear, structured enough to hold interest. It appeals to someone who wants the accessibility of a mainstream floral but with the depth of a chypre. The oak moss note brings a traditional perfumery quality that gives the fragrance a sense of history and craft, a reminder of the building blocks that shaped women's fragrances for decades. For those drawn to compositions with character and complexity, this offers something worth exploring.
