The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Calm emerged in 2018 as the second entry of Belsans' trio that translates aromatherapy into scent. Perfumer Laura Gámez, a certified aromatherapist, set out to capture the feeling of steady serenity after a hectic day. Using only natural essential-oil extracts, she built a composition that starts with juniper and black pepper to awaken the senses before transitioning into a gentler middle ground.
Gámez selected each ingredient not just for its scent but for its aromatic-therapeutic properties. Juniper has long been associated with clarity and detoxification in aromatherapy traditions. Black pepper provides warmth and stimulation. Geranium is known for its balancing effects on the nervous system, while ylang-ylang contributes its reputation as a calming, mood-levelling note. The base of oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver grounds the wearer with earthbound, anchoring materials that mirror the intention of the fragrance itself: steady, present, grounded.
The evolution
The journey of Calm follows a clear emotional narrative from alertness to calm. Juniper and black pepper create an immediate, focused opening that sharpens awareness in the first minutes. Geranium then steps in to soften this sharpness, introducing a floral, green quality that represents the transition from stress to ease. Ylang-ylang tempers the geranium's herbal character with its creamy sweetness, producing a heart that feels neither cold nor overwrought. As time passes, oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver anchor the wearer into a deep, earthy drydown that lingers for hours. Each phase flows naturally into the next, like a exhale that happens in stages rather than all at once.
Cultural impact
Since its 2018 debut, Calm has found a niche among professionals and wellness enthusiasts who value scent as a subtle mood aid. It’s often cited in aromatherapy circles as a practical everyday calm‑inducer, and its understated bottle design has become a quiet staple in boutique fragrance cabinets. Wearers describe it as the scent of a focused mind in a busy office, reinforcing Belsans’ bridge between wellbeing and olfactory art.
