The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2018, perfumers Quentin Bisch and Michel Girard released Azzaro Wanted by Night as the evening counterpart to the original Wanted. The house drew inspiration from the brand's heritage, looking to the glamorous spirit associated with Loris Azzaro's work and the lifestyle that defined his designs. Wanted by Night shares the iconic bottle design with its daytime sibling but carries an entirely different weight. The fragrance takes the same architectural structure and fills it with warmer, smokier elements, creating a scent that feels built for different occasions. This inversion transforms the familiar silhouette into something that feels more intimate, more layered, more suited to hours after the sun goes down.
The shift from day to night is audible in the note structure. Wanted by Night swaps clarity for warmth from the opening moments. The mandarin arrives bright but is immediately warmed by cinnamon, which doesn't so much introduce itself as announce itself with unmistakable confidence. In the heart, cumin adds an aromatic depth that recalls the complexity of late-night conversation, while frankincense brings a smoky, almost meditative quality that settles the composition into something richer. The cedar backbone keeps everything structured, preventing the sweetness from floating away.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast. Mandarin orange sparks bright, a flash of citrus cool that doesn't prepare you for what follows. Then the cinnamon takes over and it isn't subtle. This is the first statement the fragrance makes, and it makes it loudly, warmed by a sweetness that reads as fruity more than floral. The heart develops with cumin and frankincense layered beneath the spice, adding an aromatic depth that tempers the sharpness without dulling it. The cedar holds the structure throughout, keeping the composition grounded as it evolves. As the fragrance settles into its base, tobacco emerges as the dominant voice, backed by cypress and a vanilla-adjacent warmth from the benzoin. This is where Wanted by Night becomes itself.
Cultural impact
Azzaro Wanted by Night arrived as a counterpoint to lighter masculine fragrances, offering something richer and more intense. The original Wanted line tapped into a cultural moment celebrating confidence and nightlife, and the night variant extended this philosophy into evening territory. Wanted by Night leans heavily into spice and smoke, creating a composition that feels bold and unapologetic. The fragrance rejects the idea that masculine evening scents should be restrained or subtle. Instead, it offers a different path, one that embraces warmth, intensity, and a certain theatrical flair.
