The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2018, Kenzo Takada partnered with two Firmenich master perfumers, Frank Voelkl and Olivier Cresp, to create a fragrance built around the tension between brightness and warmth, between the energy of fresh fruit and the quiet depth of white florals. Life Colour was the result, a composition that captures the vibrant interplay of color and emotion. The name says it all, this is fragrance as a daily sensory experience, not a special-occasion luxury. It was designed to be reached for every day, a scent that feels both modern and timeless, grounding the wearer in a moment of sensory richness.
What makes Life Colour interesting is the interplay between its fruity opening and its grain-forward base. Pear and raspberry are common enough in modern perfumery, but the heart of the fragrance offers something unexpected. The composition avoids being purely foody or purely floral, finding its own niche in between. The grain note adds a starchy, slightly powdery warmth that softens the raspberry's sweetness and gives the florals something to lean into. There's a tactile quality to how these elements interact, creating unexpected texture as the fragrance develops.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, pear and raspberry arrive together, bright and slightly tart, like fruit at the peak of ripeness. There's a brief moment where the sweetness peaks, almost candy-adjacent, before the florals begin to assert themselves. Magnolia emerges gradually, bringing a creamy, almost waxy warmth that tames the fruit's sharpness. The raspberry doesn't disappear, it deepens, settling into the composition like a background hum. By the time you hit the base notes, the grain-forward accord takes over, adding a starchy, slightly powdery texture that feels almost tactile against the skin. The white suede is the quiet closer: soft, clean, and reassuring. It lingers close to the skin for the next few hours, a presence that holds its ground without overwhelming the space around you.
Cultural impact
Life Colour by Kenzo Takada brings a designer sensibility to Avon's fragrance collection. Marketed under Natura & Co, it joins a line known for making scent an everyday indulgence. The collaboration infuses the accessible Avon range with a fashion-world perspective, creating a bridge between high-end perfumery and daily wearability. The result is a fragrance that carries artistic weight while remaining grounded in approachability, appealing to those who appreciate both craftsmanship and practicality in their scent choices.
