The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fès Leather was launched in 2023, with Ghriss Mohamed creating the fragrance for Atrujja. Its composition follows two parallel materials: oud and leather. Spanish saffron starts the conversation with a warm, elegant flash, joined by gentle touches of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. The tension gives the scent its shape. One line is dark, tactile and wood-driven. The other is aromatic, spiced and alive. Green Mango opens the top with a fresh, green brightness that lifts the saffron before the composition settles into its deeper registers. Laotian oud, Cedarwood and Patchouli build the woody leather character, while Turkish rose, Pink Lotus and Osmanthus introduce floral softness that never overwhelms the heat beneath it.
The unusual part is how neatly the composition keeps its two impulses in motion. Saffron gives the opening a polished edge without making it feel bright in the usual citrus sense. Laotian oud introduces depth, but green mango stops the result from becoming predictably heavy. Turkish rose and Pink Lotus bring softness, while patchouli, labdanum, benzoin, amber and tonka build a dense resinous floor. The result feels less like leather added to oud than two materials refusing to settle for separate identities.
The evolution
The opening is the sharper passage. Spanish saffron arrives with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, creating a dry warmth that briefly feels almost polished. Green Mango keeps the composition from turning entirely heavy, adding a green, fresh impression that behaves like light across lacquer. As the heart develops, Laotian oud, Cedarwood and Patchouli establish the woody leather character. Turkish rose, Pink Lotus and Osmanthus soften the geometry without losing its heat, while Ambergris, Elemi and Siam Benzoin bring mineral, resinous depth. In the drydown, Labdanum, Benzoin, Amber and Tonka Bean take over. The leather accord settles close to skin, warmed by amber and rounded by tonka, while rose and oud continue to register in the background.
Cultural impact
Fès Leather places leather, rose and oud within a single composition, and the materials carry the piece with a distinct character. Laotian oud and Cedarwood give the scent a woody, tactile foundation, sharpened at the top by Spanish saffron, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Green Mango adds a fresh counterpoint, while Turkish rose, Pink Lotus and Osmanthus bring floral softness into the heart. Ambergris, Elemi and Siam Benzoin contribute mineral and resinous depth, and Labdanum, Benzoin, Amber and Tonka Bean settle the fragrance into a warm, skin-close base.
The House
AtrujjaAtrujja draws its identity from Arabic perfumery and presents it through a French-made niche lens. Its small collection moves between Indian qadeem, Tunisian rose, Turkish rose, leather from Fès, vanilla and oud, pairing place-based names with an emphasis on fine raw materials and handmade craft.
