The beginning
Released in 2017 as part of the Marshmallows Attack! collection, Marshmallows Smoke! took the simple treat and set it somewhere unexpected: a bonfire in October. Arcana Craves built its identity on this kind of pairing, a familiar food cue rendered through a mood you wouldn't immediately associate with it. Here, the craving was childhood comfort, but the setting was smoke and dark air. The name does all the work upfront. Two words, then an exclamation point. Marshmallows, then smoke, then the punctuation that says this wasn't meant to be subtle. It's an indie perfume logic: one image, one contrast, done. The fragrance lives squarely inside that logic, leaning on its components to carry the contradiction without needing prose to explain the joke.
The pairing works because both elements are real cooking processes. Marshmallows toast. Arcana Craves wasn't inventing a novelty combination so much as collapsing several warm, carbon-edge memories into one wearable structure. The black tea in the opening, the maple leaf, the woodsmoke that arrives from the base, none of these read as separate ideas stitched together. They feel like a single atmosphere, a continuous environment of warmth and char where sweetness is just one more layer of haze.
The evolution
The first hour is the most overtly sweet: marshmallow and vanilla at the surface, almost like a confection that hasn't quite committed to its setting. Black tea and maple leaf read as accents rather than leads. By the second hour, the woodsmoke begins to surface, pulling the sweetness downward and giving it density. The smoke intensifies through the third and fourth hours, and by the drydown, the marshmallow has receded enough that the fragrance reads as smoked vanilla with a dusting of sugar. On fabric the next morning, it's all woodsmoke and a trace of maple, the sweetness almost entirely consumed. The progression feels less like a fade and more like a slow roast, the marshmallow surrendering its shape one degree at a time until what's left is mostly the warmth that held it. You don't lose the gourmand entirely; you just lose the soft center, and what remains is the crust.

Marshmallows Smoke! sits comfortably in the indie niche world where smoke and gourmand meet. It's part of the broader Marshmallows Attack! collection, which includes sibling scents like Marshmallows Burn Down the Yule, each riffing on the same core idea from a different angle. Wearers tend to be fragrance collectors who treat scent as comfort, not performance, reaching for it in cold months when most gourmands feel too thin. Production appears to have been discontinued, which places it firmly in the secondary market where decants and partial bottles circulate long after official runs end.
