The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Prestige Topaz is the 2024 chapter in Al Majed Oud's ongoing conversation between heritage and modernity. The house has worked with rose since its earliest days, Bulgarian rose in the oils, Damascus rose in the blends, but this release strips the note back to something cleaner. The goal was a rose that arrives without ceremony, holds its ground without force, and leaves behind something worth remembering. Topaz provided the framework: the gemstone's warmth, its ability to catch light without producing it, became the brief. What emerged is a fragrance that translates restraint into its most attractive form, presence without volume, sweetness without surrender.
What makes this structure interesting is the conversation between pink pepper and tonka bean. Pink pepper is typically a fleeting note, a brief citrus-spice spark that announces a fragrance and disappears. Here it's asked to do something harder: it must open the composition without overpowering the rose that follows. The tonka bean handles the warmth at the base, but it's not the loud vanilla of a gourmand. It's the quiet sweetness underneath, the kind that registers as comfort rather than confection. Sandalwood bridges both: creamy enough to soften the rose, dry enough to ground the tonka. The composition's restraint isn't minimalism, it's precision. Every note has a role. Nothing idles.
The evolution
The opening arrives clean and bright. Pink pepper does its job in the first fifteen to thirty minutes, a sharp, almost mineral spark that catches the light. Then the rose takes over. Not a gentle rose, not a romantic rose. A Damascus rose with structure, the kind that smells like petals and stem both. The handoff takes about an hour, and the transition is surprisingly smooth, no awkward gap, no abrupt drop. The heart holds for four to six hours depending on skin. Then the drydown: tonka bean and sandalwood together, creating a powdery-warm embrace that stays close to the skin. Strong sillage in the first two hours, then it settles into something more intimate. Eight to ten hours total on most skin. The next morning, there's a faint warmth on the wrist, sandalwood that refused to leave.
Cultural impact
Prestige Topaz arrived in 2024 as a gender-neutral offering that occupies a specific middle ground, traditional enough to satisfy rose and oud lovers, modern enough to appeal to someone new to the category. The strong longevity and sillage ratings reflect a fragrance that was built to be noticed on its own terms, not to follow trends. It's the kind of piece that fills a gap for someone who wants the depth of an oriental without the heaviness of one.
