Les Murmures du Baobab was born from Empreinte d'Effluves’ 2024 Voyage en Terre Inconnue collection, a line that seeks dialogue with the planet. Perfumer Alice Dattée listened to the African baobab’s silent stories, translating its rugged bark and sweet fruit into scent. The French house, rooted between Paris and Grasse, framed the fragrance as an invitation to reconnect with earth, to hear its wild beauty speak through citrus, herbs and smoky incense.

Baobab fruit appears both at the top and in the base, anchoring the composition with a tart‑sweet pulse that never truly fades. Artemisia adds a dry, green edge, while grapefruit injects a sun‑kissed brightness. The heart’s frankincense and ginger create a warm, resinous bridge, and Nepalese Sichuan pepper injects a fleeting, tingling heat that deepens the woody amber trail.

At first spray, the baobab fruit erupts with a sharp, almost mineral tang, instantly cut by grapefruit’s citrus spark and the dry, herbaceous whisper of artemisia. This opening flashes for about twenty minutes before the heart settles in, where frankincense releases a smoky incense veil, ginger adds a clean heat, and the pepper‑spiced herbs give a subtle bite that feels like a wind across savanna grasses. As the fragrance dries, the base emerges: amyris and Virginia cedar lay a soft woody foundation, while patchouli and white musk deepen the earthiness, and the lingering baobab fruit sweetens the tail with a faint, dried‑fruit warmth. The drydown persists for roughly five hours, staying intimate yet discernible, the smoky amber lingering like a quiet dusk over the African horizon.
