The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mon Paris takes its name from the city that inspired Yves Saint Laurent. The original Mon Paris was a chypre floral, a scent that captured Paris through rose and patchouli. Mon Paris Lumière is its lighter sibling, released in 2022, created for those who want that same Parisian spirit but with a luminous, daytime quality. Olivier Cresp and Dora Baghriche-Arnaud created a version that keeps the heart of the original, Turkish rose absolute, datura, but opens brighter, airier, with a sense of lightness that fills the air.
The choice of datura is what sets this apart. Datura brings a fresh, delicate quality to the fragrance. Combined with white lotus, it gives the fragrance an aquatic quality without being watery. The Turkish rose absolute adds depth to the composition. White musk in the base keeps everything soft, while patchouli provides an earthy undertone that balances the floral elements, preventing the scent from becoming a purely white-floral exercise.
The evolution
The opening announces white lotus immediately, clean, almost dewy. There's a slight lemon note that adds brightness without sharpness. The heart emerges with Turkish rose absolute and datura, warmer and sweeter, a fruity-floral sweetness that feels effortless. The drydown is where patchouli and white musk take over, creating a soft, powdery warmth that lingers close to the skin. It settles into a presence that stays with you through the day.
Cultural impact
Mon Paris Lumière launched in 2022 as a lighter interpretation of the original Mon Paris. This flanker offers a different take on the signature scent, providing an option for those seeking a more subtle approach. The fragrance represents a fresh perspective within the YSL collection, appealing to different preferences and moments.
