The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mário Torri Neto built Opel as a study in contrast. Cardamom opens sharp and aromatic, a brief brightening before the composition pivots into leather territory. The scent unfolds through its opening act with notable speed, never lingering at the entrance. There's an immediacy to how it moves from that initial spark toward something richer and more grounded, the aromatic lift giving way to leather almost as if the fragrance itself is in constant motion. The leather arrives with textured presence, carrying weight and depth that resist any notion of polish. It's a leather with something to say, raw and unapologetic in its character.
What makes this composition unusual is the jasmine. White florals rarely share space with leather without one overwhelming the other, here they negotiate. The jasmine doesn't sweeten the leather; it tempers it, adds a breathing quality that keeps the heart from collapsing into pure darkness. Moss anchors the base with a damp, green counterweight to the amber warmth. Patchouli ties it all together with its earthy, slightly bitter depth. The result is leather that smells worn-in rather than new, a jacket borrowed from someone with better stories.
The evolution
The cardamom arrives first, clean and spicy. Then the leather moves in, and the jasmine becomes audible underneath, a soft floral note that almost contradicts the leather until you realize it doesn't. The two occupy the same space without fighting. The amber builds warmth while the patchouli and moss push upward from the base, adding a damp, earthy quality that pulls the composition toward something more animal. The drydown settles into a close, mossy amber that stays intimate against the skin. Above-average projection means it announces itself with presence, reaching those nearby before they expect it.
Cultural impact
Thera Cosméticos has built its identity on translating raw materials into contemporary compositions. The leather note brings boldness, the kind of material that carries weight and presence. Cardamom signals Brazil's connection to global spice trade, its bright quality cutting through the deeper leather tones. This pairing creates something that feels neither entirely local nor entirely global, a scent that moves between different territories without fully committing to any single one.
