The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bambooshka was launched in 2024 by The Saltworks Company, with Kenneth Orbeck credited as perfumer. Its premise is simple and immediate, bringing together White Peach, Bamboo Leaf, and Sandalwood in a direct fragrance composition. White Peach introduces the fruit element, Bamboo Leaf adds a green note, and Sandalwood completes the combination with a woody note. The idea isn't a grand love story or a formal invitation. It takes three recognizable materials and places them within the same structure, allowing the fruit, green, and woody parts to define Bambooshka's central character. The result brings summer warmth and leafy greenery into the same composition. That pairing gives the scent its shape.
The unusual part is the combination of White Peach and Bamboo Leaf. Fruit supplies one part of the composition, while bamboo introduces a green line through the center. That pairing keeps the opening from being defined by the fruit note alone. As the fragrance develops, Sandalwood adds its woody character to the peach and bamboo combination, changing the emphasis of the composition without removing the original fruit and green elements. The three named notes remain the clearest framework for understanding Bambooshka: White Peach, Bamboo Leaf, and Sandalwood.
The evolution
The opening begins with White Peach in its most open form, presenting the fruit note clearly and directly. As it develops, Bamboo Leaf moves through the center and introduces a green element to the composition. The peach remains part of the structure, but its role changes as bamboo becomes more present. The combination creates a clear progression from fruit to greenery, with each note retaining a distinct place within Bambooshka. During the drydown, Sandalwood becomes more prominent as a named note in the composition. The emphasis moves away from the opening fruit impression and toward the fragrance's woody foundation, while bamboo continues to contribute its green character. This makes the overall arc readable through the interaction of the three materials: White Peach begins the composition, Bamboo Leaf shapes its middle, and Sandalwood defines its later stage.
Cultural impact
Bambooshka is built around a straightforward combination of White Peach, Bamboo Leaf, and Sandalwood. Its appeal comes from the meeting of three distinct fragrance notes rather than from a broader market position or a claim about collector appeal. The fruit note introduces immediate recognition, bamboo adds a green dimension, and sandalwood brings a woody element to the composition. Together they create a fragrance that invites repeated discovery, with each stage revealing another part of Bambooshka's simple structure.
The House
The Saltworks CompanyThe Saltworks Company is an independent fragrance house based in the United Kingdom. Since its launch in 2013 the brand has built a catalogue of more than fifty scents, each created from original formulas developed in‑house. The Creator
Kenneth OrbeckOrbeck favors ingredients that echo the body’s chemistry. He reaches for soft woods such as sandalwood and cedar, grounding herbs like sage, and light florals that mirror estrogenic cues, including neroli and clary sage.
