The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Two Shot Caramel arrived in 2024 from The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, shaped by perfumer Mahsam Raza. The brief was indulgent and obvious: two rounds of caramel, no filler, classified as a Floral Fruity Gourmand that treats sweetness as its central focus. Raza built it around a sticky, almost edible caramel accord, then braced it with ginger's heat, peach's blush, and the red-fruit brightness of raspberry and strawberry. The formula lands in a warm pocket where vanilla, amber, Laotian oud, and patchouli take turns holding the door open.
What separates this from the syrup-bottle crowd is the architecture underneath. Raza didn't just stack sugar on sugar; he built a backbone of Laotian oud and patchouli that gives the caramel something to grip. The oud isn't smoky or animalic in the classic Arabian register; it reads resinous, almost woody-sweet, a floor for the fruit and cream to sit on. Ginger enters as a bright, slightly peppery hinge between the opening and the heart, the kind of detail that makes a gourmand feel composed rather than confectionary. The peach and berries do the same work, lifting the composition so it never puddles into a single-note sweetness.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are loud and obvious: caramel, warm and fatty, the kind that smells like it was just pulled off heat. Ginger cuts in almost immediately, not sharp but bright, like a thumb of fresh root scraped into brown sugar. Peach arrives next, soft and ripe, and the raspberry-strawberry pair threads through it like jam folded into whipped cream. By the one-hour mark the fruit has settled, the ginger has cooled, and vanilla starts to take over, rounding the edges of everything else. The drydown belongs to amber, Laotian oud, and patchouli, and here's the surprise: the oud doesn't turn dark or leathery. It stays low, resinous, almost smoked-honey, while the patchouli grounds it with its usual cocoa-coffee earthiness. The amber smooths the transition between the sweeter top notes and the darker base, lending a golden warmth that lingers well into the later hours.
Cultural impact
Two Shot Caramel sits in the gourmand sweet spot that rewards wearers who want their sugar loud and unapologetic. The composition treats caramel as the lead instrument rather than a supporting note, building around that sticky, almost edible accord and bracing it with the heat of ginger, the soft blush of peach, and the red-fruit brightness of raspberry and strawberry. Among dessert-forward fragrances, it reads closest to thick, vanilla-heavy orientals with a fruit twist, the lineage of caramel-led gourmands that pair confectionery with a darker base.
