The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Timeless Grapefruit, released in 2023, is inspired by Grapefruit Generation by D.S. & Durga, a fragrance that turned a simple citrus into something stranger and more architectural. The Dua Brand's interpretation rebuilds that composition without the original's price tag, a fruit-forward scent that refuses to behave like one. Grapefruit and honey pomelo open bright, but the elm bark, hawthorn, and cork pull the composition somewhere woodier, more tactile, and less obviously pretty. The result stays faithful to the original's skeleton while making the dry, structural materials louder and more present on the skin.
Elm and hawthorn are unusual supporting players in any fragrance, let alone a citrus. Here, the wood and bark notes do the heavy lifting, giving the grapefruit a paper-dry backbone that reads more like a forest after rain than a breakfast table. Paradisone®, a modern aromatic chemical known for its clean, slightly transparent floralcy, weaves through the bright citrus and the woody heart without weighing anything down. The result is a composition that smells like it has a spine. What makes these notes work together is their shared dryness. Elm brings a papery, almost mineral texture.
The evolution
The opening is pure grapefruit, sharp and almost bitter, with the honey pomelo adding a waxy, almost vegetal sweetness underneath. There's a papery, mineral quality from the cork and elm that arrives early, as if the fruit is being pressed against rough wood rather than glass. The hawthorn blossoms open next, a green, slightly floral note that softens the citrus without smoothing it out. The tuberose stays restrained here, more about skin warmth than heady white-flower drama. Paradisone® does its quiet lifting work in the background, adding the kind of clean, slightly humid airiness that makes everything around it feel more present. The drydown is where this composition settles into itself. The musk arrives soft and natural, settling into a close, second-skin warmth that lasts the better part of a day.
Cultural impact
Timeless Grapefruit sits in an interesting corner of the citrus category. The fragrance borrows from the woody-aromatic tradition, layering bark and hawthorn under the fruit in a way that feels structural rather than decorative. It's a composition for wearers who want citrus without the usual sweetness, and who are drawn to scents that feel built rather than simply bright. What sets this interpretation apart is its refusal to let grapefruit do what grapefruit usually does. Most citrus compositions lean on florals or musks for their architecture.
