The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sweet composition landed in 2024 from perfumer Mahsam Raza and The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection. It's a composition that doesn't hedge, built on a foundation of baked pear, almond, and cherry, with rum absolute threading warmth through layers of caramel, vanilla, and cream. The concept reads as orchestral, a fragrance that moves through movements, each note entering, harmonizing, and resolving before the next arrives. Raza constructed it as a gourmand first, fruity second, with woody warmth as the bass line that keeps the sweetness from spinning off into candy territory.
What separates Sweet composition from the flood of gourmand releases is its structural backbone. The almond-to-cherry pairing creates a marzipan-meets-orchard-fruit effect that feels rich rather than synthetic. Rum absolute adds the fermented, almost boozy depth that genuine fruit accords lack, giving the composition an adult register. Meanwhile, ginger cuts through the creaminess with clean heat, and patchouli grounds the whole arrangement. It reads as dessert engineered for someone who doesn't actually want dessert, the idea of sweetness without the crash.
The evolution
The pear opens bright and almost crisp, quickly met by almond's marzipan softness and a burst of cherry-raspberry tartness. Within the first quarter hour, the rum absolute arrives and the whole thing warms, the fruit notes deepening into something baked, almost like pear poaching in spiced wine. Caramel and cinnamon surface as the composition settles, and the structure starts to feel less like fruit and more like pastry, the cream and sugar notes thickening the texture with a buttery weight that clings to the skin. As time passes, patchouli and sandalwood settle underneath, darkening the sweetness into something more grounded and resinous. The base stretches out with above-average projection, the vanilla and cream taking over, but they're now reading as warm wood and soft musk rather than frosting.
Cultural impact
Sweet composition occupies a specific corner of the gourmand world: rich enough to satisfy fans of heavy, dessert-driven scents, but built on real fruit and wood structure that keeps it from tipping into pure sugar-bomb territory. The almond-cherry-rum heart brings an edible warmth that reads as indulgent without losing the freshness of the opening pear, and the sandalwood-patchouli base gives the sweetness an anchor that keeps it grounded. It's a fragrance that wears well in cooler months, where the spiced and boozy facets come forward and the cream and wood base can radiate comfortably without feeling heavy.
