The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spring Vibes landed in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a fragrance openly acknowledging its creative lineage. It's inspired by the innovative UK perfume brand Gypsy Story, specifically their release called Spring in August. The composition centers on bergamot, black pepper, and green tea as its anchoring elements, and the project aimed to capture a specific mood through those building blocks. The brief was simple: bottle the optimism of a spring morning, the spice of cumin seeds warming on a windowsill, and the resinous weight of elemi and benzoin to anchor it all.
What's interesting here is the sheer breadth of the composition layered into a deceptively simple citrus framework. Nearly thirty raw materials sit beneath the surface, from carrot seeds and green tea to magnolia and lily of the valley, all serving a single idea: spring as a state of sensory overload. The pepper and cumin do the spicy work that black pepper alone couldn't carry, layering warmth into the opening without tipping it into aggressive territory.
The evolution
The opening is immediate and electric. Bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit, lime, and neroli arrive in a cold, sparkling rush, sharpened further by ginger and black pepper for a fizzy, slightly spicy first impression that practically crackles against the skin. The citrus then begins to soften as the heart takes over: jasmine, lily of the valley, magnolia, and rose push through the green tea, softening the brightness into something floral and almost dewy, like petals carrying traces of morning moisture. Coumarin adds a hay-like warmth that smooths the transition between the airy florals and the denser woods waiting below. Eventually the base claims its territory, with sandalwood and cedarwood rising first, then patchouli and vetiver rooting the composition into moss and earth. Benzoin brings a quiet sweetness that lingers for hours, lending warmth without weight.
Cultural impact
Spring Vibes sits in a curious corner of the fragrance world, a composition that wears its inspiration openly and asks wearers to consider what they're actually buying. It's the kind of release that gets discussed in forums less for what it is and more for what it references, which makes it a useful entry point for anyone curious about the original inspiration without the commitment of tracking down the source. The fragrance functions as an everyday piece, the kind of bottle you keep on the dresser and reach for without thinking when the mood calls for something bright, green, and quietly complex.
