The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Soft Floral Praline arrived in 2026 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, composed by Mahsam Raza. The brief reads like a comfort object translated into scent: warm milk poured over toasted praline, softened by rose, cushioned by cashmere wood. No drama. No theatrics. Just the kind of sweetness that settles in rather than announces itself. Raza built it for the gourmand tradition the house knows well, layering familiar dessert notes with quieter, skin-like materials underneath, so the final wear feels less like a fragrance and more like an atmosphere you happen to carry.
What's interesting here is the balance. Praline and caramel are heavy hitters by default, prone to tipping into candy-shop territory fast. Raza offset that weight with cashmere wood and incense, materials that pull the composition toward something drier and more textured. Lily of the valley and rose keep the floral presence gentle rather than bouquet-like. The result is gourmand architecture that breathes, where each sweet layer has a cooler counterpoint holding it in place. It's a technical choice that keeps the comfort from becoming cloying.
The evolution
The opening lands soft and milky, almost gauzy, marshmallow and milk setting a low ceiling before the praline and caramel even arrive. There's a gentleness to that first breath, like the scent equivalent of sinking into a thick towel fresh from the dryer, all cotton warmth and quiet sweetness. The caramel settles in and deepens the sugar into something more buttery and toasted, while rose surfaces briefly, a cool floral flicker against the warming sweetness underneath, almost like opening a window in a warm kitchen. As the composition ages, the cashmere wood and incense take over the architecture, pulling the whole thing down into something drier and more grounded, less confection and more fabric. Vanilla and musk hold the later drydown for hours on end, skin-close and powdery, the praline now a memory rather than a presence, a suggestion of what once was rather than the main event.
Cultural impact
Soft Floral Praline sits comfortably in the gourmand lane the brand knows well, the kind of release that rewards people who want comfort without complexity. It's a scent for the person who reaches for something warm and familiar, not the one chasing a signature or trying to make a statement. The marshmallow-milk-praline combination reads current, the whole thing tuned toward softness rather than sharpness, with sweetness that stays skin-like rather than room-filling. There's nothing aggressive about it, no sharp edges or sudden swings, just a steady warmth that feels like an old favorite even on first wear.
