The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Safari Nights arrived in 2020 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, an homage to Safari Extreme by Abdul Samad Al Qurashi. That original draws on over a century of experience in Saudi Arabian oud and incense craft, a tradition built around agarwood, Mysore sandalwood, and the kind of floral-spicy architecture the region perfected. The Dua Brand's brief was simple and ambitious: take that blueprint and reconstruct it using accessible materials, without losing the gravity of the source. They leaned heavy on the oud, kept the sandalwood honest, and let the vanilla do what vanilla does best in this genre, anchor everything in skin warmth. The result is a 30 ml composition that reads as a love letter to Arabian perfumery.
What makes this composition work is the deliberate tension between Mysore sandalwood and oud. Sandalwood from Mysore carries a creamy, almost milky softness that Western sandalwood alternatives can't fully replicate, and pairing it with raw oud creates a push-pull: the oud pushes dark, leathery, slightly medicinal, and the sandalwood pulls everything back toward warmth and skin. The vanilla here reads as something between a pod and a smoldering ember, deep and woodsy rather than overtly sweet.
The evolution
The opening hits with oud front and center, and it doesn't apologize. It's that raw, slightly animalic agarwood character, the kind that reads as wood and leather and something faintly barnyard if you're being honest. Within the first half hour, the Mysore sandalwood starts arriving underneath, and the composition begins to settle into its actual personality. The floral and spicy notes emerge in the heart, and this is where the fragrance reveals its sophistication. The florals aren't sweet or powdery, they read almost smoky, like dried petals in a wooden box, and the spices add warmth without heat. By the two-hour mark, the vanilla has fully integrated, and what you're left with is this creamy, woody, slightly resinous drydown that feels alive on the skin.
Cultural impact
Safari Nights sits within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a series that draws from established luxury and niche fragrances. It's the kind of release that appeals to wearers who want the gravity of Arabian-style oud compositions without sourcing the original, and it brings together Mysore sandalwood and agarwood in a way that feels direct and unfiltered. The fragrance leans into materials that carry centuries of association with the Gulf and the Indian subcontinent, from the creamy depth of Mysore sandalwood to the dark, resinous pull of agarwood, and it builds a profile around those cores rather than around fleeting top notes.
