The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
There's a particular hour, late, after a dinner that ran long, when the streetlights catch you walking home and the night air smells faintly of everything you just ate. That's the territory Nighthawks maps. Launched in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection, it channels that suspended-after-midnight energy into an Extrait de Parfum that refuses to pick a lane between gourmand and oriental floral. The brand built its reputation reconstructing the architecture of well-known scents, but Nighthawks is an original composition. Coconut and toffee carry the sweetness. Coffee and patchouli hold the weight. Citrus at the top keeps the whole thing from tipping over.
What makes Nighthawks interesting isn't any single note. It's the structural decision to build a gourmand floral around coconut and toffee, then ground the whole thing with coffee and patchouli rather than the usual vanilla-and-sandalwood chassis. That's a choice. Most coconut-forward fragrances lean beachy, lactonic, almost sunscreen-adjacent. Here, the coffee note intercepts that sweetness before it can go sun-tan-lotion, pulling the toffee into something darker and more adult. The bergamot, mandarin, and lemon at the top add a brightness that reads almost like the cold air hitting your skin on the walk home.
The evolution
The first spray is almost aggressively bright. Bergamot, mandarin, lemon, and blackcurrant land all at once, a citrus hit that lasts maybe 15 minutes before the coconut and toffee arrive underneath. That middle phase is the loudest part of the ride. Ylang-ylang, May rose, and lily of the valley lift the sweetness slightly, making it less dessert and more perfumed skin. Then the ground shifts. Coffee grounds itself into the composition, patchouli arrives quiet but unmistakable, and white musk settles everything into a warmer, more shadowed space. On a fifth hour, you're mostly smelling coconut cream, a whisper of coffee, and the clean warmth of white musk against your clothes. It doesn't vanish so much as get quieter, settling into skin rather than projecting into space.
Cultural impact
Nighthawks sits in a specific corner of the fragrance world: the accessible gourmand-oriental, the kind of composition that's built for wearers who want sweetness with backbone. Coconut-toffee compositions have a polarizing reputation. Some find them beachy and juvenile. Others want exactly the dark, coffee-grounded, late-night read that this one delivers, the sort of scent that feels best in cooler air and dimmer rooms. The 30 ml Extrait format places the bottle in a collector-friendly scale, small enough to keep close on a shelf and potent enough that a single application carries through an evening.
