The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
#Mega arrived in 2021 from The Dua Brand as part of the Inspired Expression collection. This particular release draws directly from Orto Parisi's Megamare, a fragrance known for its exploration of uncharted olfactory territories. The composition takes that same conceptual ground and renders it in a more accessible format, one that keeps the core DNA recognizable while presenting it through a lens that feels less niche and more broadly wearable. The Inspired Expression line functions as a platform for well-known fragrance references, offering alternatives for those curious about established scent territory but hesitant to commit to the original release.
What makes this composition interesting is the pairing. Calone, the synthetic molecule behind most aquatic fragrances, gives the bright marine shimmer, but it's flanked by ambergris and civet, two materials with deep animalic weight. Bergamot and sea salt keep the opening buoyant. Magnolia and jasmine add a white floral softness. The musk underneath is what grounds everything, giving the composition a faintly lived-in quality, like skin that's been in the sun rather than something just sprayed.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost aggressively oceanic. Calone and sea salt hit hard, sharp and bright, with bergamot cutting through like a blade of light. There's something almost synthetic about it, and that crisp, high-definition marine accord is the defining characteristic of the opening, a cold, almost electric saltiness that announces itself without apology. Within thirty minutes, the florals start to surface. Magnolia leads, soft and creamy, while jasmine adds a sweetness that keeps things from going too clean. The transition from the opening's high-energy brightness to the heart's white floral warmth happens smoothly, no jarring shift. By the two-hour mark, the animalic notes take over. Civet and ambergris emerge from underneath, not aggressively, but enough to change the temperature of the whole thing.
Cultural impact
#Mega sits in a specific niche: aquatic fragrances that don't shy away from the animalic. The composition pairs marine brightness with the deeper, more bodily notes of civet and ambergris, creating a profile that stands apart from typical ocean-themed releases. It's a polarizing approach, wearers either love the salt-and-skin combination or find it too much. The fragrance has drawn attention from enthusiasts who gravitate toward compositions that offer something distinctive, something that pushes against the boundaries of what an aquatic scent can be.
