The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
#Lucky launched in 2021 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a collection the house uses to interpret well-known compositions through its own lens. This one draws its cues from Frederic Malle's Superstitious, a fragrance rooted in the aldehyde tradition that The Dua Brand set out to reconstruct. The team focused on what gives the original its organic, intentional quality, working to preserve that same sense of intention in their version. The result sits in a 30 ml extrait concentration, a compact format suited to daily handling. The name #Lucky nods to the fragrance's intended energy: a quiet talisman for moments when you want to feel like things are tilting your way.
What's interesting here is the tension between the aldehydes and the incense. Aldehydes are loud, almost sparkling in their brightness, the kind of note that makes everything around it feel polished and present. Incense does the opposite, it pulls the air downward, adds weight, introduces a meditative quality. This one holds both, the soapy clean and the smoky dark, and lets them coexist from the opening onward. The peach in the middle does the negotiating, a soft, narcotic sweetness that bridges the two sides without flattening them.
The evolution
The first few minutes are almost aggressive in their clarity. Aldehydes, jasmine, a burst of brightness that announces itself before anything else has a chance to settle. The peach arrives quickly and softens the edges, but the aldehydes hold their ground. On skin, it tucks closer, warmer, more like fabric softener left in a drawer than something freshly applied. The incense eventually comes forward, and the composition shifts register. The smoke is dry, almost papery, layered with patchouli and vetiver doing their slow, earthy work underneath. The jasmine recedes but never disappears, it just becomes part of the texture rather than a note you can pick out. It feels like a different fragrance from the opening, something moodier, less structured, more lived-in. The amber and vetiver base settles in and takes over.
Cultural impact
#Lucky sits comfortably in the lineage of aldehyde-forward florals, compositions that reward a wearer willing to sit with them rather than rush past the opening. The fragrance pairs the clean, almost vintage shimmer of the aldehydes with a smoky, meditative drydown, and that contrast is the whole point. It leans into the tension between precision and mood, between the polished French tradition and a more contemporary willingness to let smoke and incense carry real weight in a composition.
