The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lone Star launched in 2018 from The Dua Brand. This particular release sits in the brand's Inspired Expression collection, a label that signals the intent clearly. Lone Star is The Dua Brand's take on Saks Fifth Avenue Texas, a Bond No. 9 scent that was available only at Saks. The original came in a star-shaped bottle dressed in Swarovski crystals, a limited-edition object that became as much a collectible as a fragrance. The Dua Brand's version translates the scent architecture into a different format, one that doesn't carry the crystal embellishment or the exclusivity pricing of the original. What remains is the composition itself: a wide-open, sunlit blend built on citrus and gardenia with a green-fruity edge that gives it dimension.
What makes the composition worth a closer look is the range on display. Fourteen listed notes is generous for a citrus-forward fragrance, and the pyramid reads like a curated list of white-floral perfumery: gardenia, jasmine, lily of the valley, neroli, hedione, mandarin, bergamot, blackcurrant, pineapple leaf, cardamom, vanilla, oakmoss, vetiver, and musk. Each note carries its own weight, and the way they're sequenced creates a sense of movement across the wear.
The evolution
The opening hits with bright, immediate citrus. Bergamot and mandarin orange arrive sharp and lively, the kind of brightness that wakes up a room. There's a green, almost herbal edge from the hedione and neroli underneath, and the pineapple leaf adds something you don't always get in citrus openings: a faint tropical humidity, like the air just before rain in a garden. The blackcurrant takes over as the composition moves forward, arriving tart and jammy at the same time, somewhere between cassis liqueur and the smell of crushed currant stems. It pushes the citrus into the background without killing it, the fruit holding on as a quieter thread beneath the new arrival. The gardenia and jasmine swell in the heart, creamy and white-petal-heavy, but the fruit keeps them from going powdery.
Cultural impact
Lone Star exists within a specific lineage: it's The Dua Brand's interpretation of the Bond No. 9 scent Saks Fifth Avenue Texas, which was available only at Saks and came packaged in a star-shaped bottle dressed in Swarovski crystals. That original bottle was a collectible object as much as a fragrance, the kind of packaging that ends up on display rather than tucked into a medicine cabinet. The Dua Brand's version keeps the scent profile while setting aside the crystal embellishment and the exclusivity pricing, which places the fragrance in a different context of ownership.
