Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza signed Jungle Delight in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. The brief reads like a gourmand fantasy that knows its own weight: boozy heat up top, something nutty and tender in the middle, and a base deep enough to sit through a whole evening. Raza's approach here leans into contrast, and the opening makes that clear almost immediately. Rum and nutmeg bring the first spark, a flash of warm alcohol laced with that bittersweet, slightly resinous spice that nutmeg always carries. The heat doesn't linger in isolation; it hands off quickly. Almond paste and heliotrope pull the sweetness somewhere unexpectedly soft, almost marzipan-like, like the airy interior of a confection left out in warm air.
Mugane plays a supporting role in Jungle Delight's base, working in tandem with the woods and the quieter gourmand elements to hold the composition together through a full wear. Honey moves through the same middle register, adding a sticky warmth that binds the almond and heliotrope to what's coming beneath. It never announces itself outright, but you'd notice its absence. Honey here thickens everything around it rather than reading as a sweet note on its own terms, giving the middle phase a richness that feels baked rather than candied.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes belong to rum. Not rum-and-coke sweet, but rum-and-nutmeg dark, the kind of warm spice that fills a small room without trying. Then the almond paste takes over, softer than expected, almost like the filling of a pastry that's been sitting out for an hour. Heliotrope and suede arrive together, and that's where the texture shifts, powdery and tactile at once. By hour two, the boozy edge has softened into something warmer. Guaiac wood and sandalwood ground the base while honey thickens the space between. Mugane does its quiet work in the background, holding everything together without anyone noticing. Six hours in, what lingers is the warmth, the soft suede-and-vanilla trail that hovers near skin. Less gourmand by then, more like the memory of one.
