The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Imperial Scottish Lavender is The Dua Brand's 2022 tribute to a Creed original most people will never smell, Royal Scottish Lavender, a composition that traces back to 1856 and has since been discontinued into rarity. Creed built their reputation on storied lavender formulations, and this particular one became a ghost, referenced in the lavender canon but largely inaccessible to anyone who wasn't paying attention when it was still around. The Dua Brand took the brief seriously and committed to recreating the robust, natural quality of that lost lavender, capturing the herbal density and aromatic weight that made the original worth remembering.
What makes the structure interesting is how it builds a full aromatic fougere from a relatively small cast of materials. Bergamot and citruses handle the lift, lavender carries the identity, and then sandalwood, vanilla, and spices form a warm, almost gourmand-tinged base that keeps the lavender from reading too austere. The accord that matters most is the spicy lavender at the heart, where the cool herbal quality of the plant gets pushed toward something almost peppery, and the sandalwood-vanilla combo underneath gives it a creamy body that rounds out the sharper herbal edges.
The evolution
The opening is the showiest stretch. Bergamot and citruses lead, bright and almost sharp, with lavender already threading through underneath, and the citrus energy doesn't fade so much as braid with the lavender as the heart takes over. The spices warm the whole composition so the lavender reads more aromatic, less cologne-counter, and by the time the drydown sets in, the sandalwood and vanilla have moved in to give the base a creamy, slightly sweet foundation that softens the lavender's edges without burying it. As the hours pass, you settle into a warm, woody-sweet lavender space that feels anchored to skin, a scent that stays personal rather than projecting aggressively across a room. The trajectory is from bright and lifted to creamy and grounded, with the lavender remaining the constant thread through every phase.
Cultural impact
This sits in an interesting corner of the fragrance world. It's a tribute to a discontinued Creed original, Royal Scottish Lavender, a composition that has earned a quiet but persistent reverence among people who track the history of lavender perfumery. The Dua Brand's approach to that kind of reference is what defines their catalog, compositions that take legendary but largely out-of-reach formulas and render them in a format the modern wearer can actually experience.
