The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Geranium Vintage is The Dua Brand's 2021 reimagining of Hermès' Equipage Geranium. The brand swapped the composition's traditional carnation note for geranium, chasing a cleaner, mintier freshness described by sources as classy and minty. The result is a warm spicy fougère that reads cologne-like at its core, woody and aromatic in its bones. Geranium Vintage launched in 2021 as part of the Dua Designer Line, the brand's ongoing series of carefully reconstructed vintage-style compositions. The geranium replacement shifts the entire personality of the scent, pulling it away from the soapy, dense character that carnation tends to deliver and steering it toward something greener and more lifted.
The clever bit is what happens at the geranium note itself. Carnation and geranium share a floral-spicy territory, but geranium leans greener and more mentholated in character. Pulling it into a sandalwood base gives the whole composition a lighter, more lifted character compared to heavier compositions anchored in dense resins. The spices add warmth without weight, and the geranium's cool, herbal quality keeps the warmth from ever feeling oppressive.
The evolution
The first spray lands sharp, almost cologne-like, with that geranium bite reading cool and slightly mentholated against whatever spice is sitting underneath. The minty edge softens as the composition warms on skin, and the warm spices begin to rise into the heart alongside a quiet rose quality that emerges from the geranium itself. As the fragrance develops, sandalwood takes over the base, warm and creamy, with a smooth woody presence that feels like the scent settling into its final form. The drydown is where Geranium Vintage reveals its longevity, a soft woody-aromatic impression that holds on skin well into the late hours, surviving close contact with fabric and persisting through the day with minimal effort.
Cultural impact
Geranium Vintage draws directly from Hermès' Equipage Geranium, a scent with a recognized place in vintage fragrance circles thanks to its geranium-forward approach to the fougère structure. The Dua Brand's interpretation of this reference gives enthusiasts another way to engage with the composition, offering the geranium character and warm spicy fougère architecture in a new presentation. The composition reads old-money rather than loud, attracting wearers who want a cologne that suggests tailoring and taste without demanding attention.
