The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fawn of Iris launched in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a collection built around one core belief: the architecture of a great fragrance shouldn't be locked behind a luxury price tag. This particular composition set its sights on the gilded iris territory pioneered by Atelier Des Ors, a house known for treating iris as a precious material. The Dua Brand's approach was to skip the gold flakes and boutique markups, keep the juice, and let the iris speak for itself. The result is a fragrance that treats the iris not as a whisper in the background of a louder composition, but as the structural spine around which everything else arranges itself. From the opening accord, there's a quiet confidence to the way Fawn of Iris presents its materials.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the supporting cast around the iris. Fawn of Iris pairs iris with liatris spicata, a botanical that brings an earthy, slightly grassy depth to the heart phase. The cypriol adds a smoky-cool root character to the composition's middle register, and labdanum with myrrh creates a resinous amber base that grounds everything in warmth. It's an iris composition that earns its richness through actual structure, not just added sweetness.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are the brightest the fragrance will ever be. Bergamot and a flash of cinnamon hit the skin with a dry, almost peppery heat, and there's a sense of something almost edible, spiced, and bright. The iris arrives quickly, within the first half hour, and from there the composition starts pulling downward into earthier territory. The cypriol and liatris come through in the heart phase, giving the iris a smoked root undertone that keeps it from ever feeling sweet or makeup-like. Patchouli and Haitian vetiver anchor the middle, green and mineral, grounding everything. By the two-hour mark the labdanum and myrrh take over completely, and what remains is a warm balsamic drydown, amber-leaning, with the iris still discernible as a soft powder underneath.
Cultural impact
Since its release, Fawn of Iris has carved out a quietly devoted following among iris enthusiasts. The Dua Brand's choice to pair a creamy iris heart with cypriol, liatris spicata, and a resinous amber base produced something distinctive within the iris category: a composition that performs well across seasons and doesn't lean on the soapy or powdery stereotypes the note sometimes carries. The fragrance reads as warm-weather-friendly without ever slipping into that vintage-coded territory some iris compositions drift toward, and it offers an alternative to the cold cosmetic interpretation of the note.
