The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
There's a Spanish niche house called Somens. In 2020 they put out Jade, a woody floral musk built around an unexpected fruit-forward opening that set it apart from typical constructions in that category. The Dua Brand looked at that composition and saw a wider audience waiting. Explosion of Fruits launched in 2022 as their interpretation, a woody, amber, fruity fragrance that takes the original's bold opening and translates it for everyday wear. The fruit-forward profile that made Jade stand out gets the spotlight here, with the same kind of lush, attention-grabbing introduction softened and rounded for broader appeal. The structure stays true to what made the original compelling: a generous fruit top, a creamy floral middle, and a grounded woody base that keeps everything in place.
What makes the structure interesting is how it balances opposing forces. Fruit and floral up top, both loud and sweet, could easily collapse into something cloying without intervention. Bergamot opens with snap, a bright citrus lift that cuts through the sweetness and gives the composition a sense of energy before the heavier notes arrive. Indonesian patchouli sits underneath with an earthy, slightly humid weight that keeps the fruit honest, preventing it from floating off into pure confectionery territory.
The evolution
The first spray is all bergamot, sharp and quick, like peeling citrus with your fingernails. Within two minutes the fruit notes swell up, jammy and dense, almost overripe. This is the loudest the fragrance ever gets, that initial burst of sweetness and brightness that announces itself without apology. By the ten-minute mark the gardenia starts threading through, creamy and soft, and the fruit begins to temper, losing some of that aggressive sweetness as the floral layer settles in around it. The Indonesian patchouli anchors from underneath, earthy and slightly sweet, pulling everything down to skin level and giving the composition a base it can stand on. An hour in, the top notes have fully retired. What's left is a warm sandalwood-cedar blend with traces of the fruit still clinging to the fabric of your shirt, a quiet echo of where the whole thing started.
Cultural impact
The composition reads as a conversation between fruit-forward sweetness and the earthy depth of patchouli, two territories that don't always meet in mainstream fragrance but coexist naturally here. The gardenia bridges that gap, softening the fruit while letting the patchouli do its work underneath, creating a layered effect where each note gets room to develop. Wearing it feels like stepping into a specific kind of orchard-meets-forest atmosphere, the kind of place where ripe fruit hangs heavy on branches while damp soil sits underneath.
